Elmore Leonard

I've actually never read an Elmore Leonard book and I'm not sure that I ever will but he said something which is particularly important. It goes like this: 'If it sound like writing, I re-write it.' We all need to read through our work and take out the bits which sound like writing. It's hard to do that because we love those bits, they sound so clever and stylish and witty. But it is exactly those sentences which draw attention to themselves which have to go.

I know what you mean. I have a favorite blogger who has been blogging for years and when she tries to write stories instead of tell about her life it just feels off somehow. But when she recounts thins from her child hood or from her recent troubled past it is incredibly magic.
If you will email me privately at kregis@comcast.net I will send you the link to her blog. Whe I finally finished the 5 years of her back log, I actually went into a depression as she wrote almost every day and I was very sad to be finished. She is extraordinary.
Writing of extraordinary, your books came today! I am quite excited and can't wait to get started.
